2021/2022 National Service Personnel of SCDE bid farewell to the University of Ghana

The 2021/2022 batch of National Service Personnel have ended their national service successfully. In all, thirteen (13) National Service Personnel (NSP) were posted to the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE), College of Education, to undergo their one (1) year mandatory national service. Four (4) of them have been given three (3) months extension to support their various Departments until the next batch of National Service Personnel are posted.

 

A farewell ceremony was organized in honour of the NSP where some faculty and staff of the SCDE used the occasion to counsel them as they step into the job market as well as to give them the opportunity to socialize. In attendance were the Provost of the College of Education, the Dean and School Administrator of SCDE. Heads of the various departments and some staff were also in attendance.

 

In her opening remarks, the School Administrator welcomed the NSP and thanked them for their hard work, commitment and all the efforts they put in their work to help the SCDE achieve its goals. She was optimistic that the training they have received have impacted and prepared them for the job market.

The National Service Personnel took turns to thank the management of the SCDE for the opportunity given them. They shared their knowledge, experiences, and challenges they encountered over the period.

 

The Dean of SCDE, Prof. Olivia Adwoa Tiwaa Kwapong in her warm speech advised the NSP to pursue their passion and career but should be in line with the word of God. According to her, we all pass through various phases of life and the National Service phase is no exception. She added that there was no need to chase after the world, however, they should have plans and goals and set their priorities right.

 

The Dean reiterated the need to take up volunteering jobs in various organizations to sharpen their skills for the job market. She also recommended they take advantage of social media and learn various skills to develop and model their passion.

Prof. Kwapong gave them the assurance that management is ever ready to help them in any way should they call on them. She thanked them for having a good time with the School and hoped it would be the beginning of a lasting relationship. She concluded with the catchphrase “Always live right”.

 

The Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe further encouraged the NSP to pursue higher education. He was hopeful that some would come back to join the University in various capacities after furthering their education.

 

Other faculty members took turns to advise the NSP to live exemplary lives wherever they find themselves. After which they were treated to sumptuous meals and were given gifts.
