Management of SCDE visits Wa, Sunyani and Kumasi Learning Centres

As part of efforts to ensure continued commitment to the activities of the University of Ghana Learning Centres, the management of the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) has paid a familiarization visit to the Wa, Sunyani, and Kumasi Learning Centres from 17th -19th October 2022.

The team was made up of the Dean of SCDE, Prof. Olivia A.T.F Kwapong, Dr. Isaac Biney, Head of University of Ghana Learning Centres (UGLCs), Mrs. Regina Afari Boateng, School Administrator, and Ms. Trinity Treve, Accountant. The visit was the second of its kind to meet with the Centre Coordinators and staff of the various Learning Centres, to get first-hand information about happenings in the learning centers.

The team’s first point of call was Wa Learning Centre. The Centre Coordinator, Dr. Marshall Kala and his staff were elated to meet them. According to him, the visit was timely and very necessary as it afforded them the opportunity to share their success stories, strategies to increase students’ numbers and challenges they face.

From Wa Learning Centre, the team proceeded to the Sunyani Learning Centre. They toured the various offices and lecture halls and interacted with staff. The staff expressed optimism that the visit would impact them positively since they had been waiting for this for long.

The last Learning Centre to be visited was Kumasi. Dr. Philip Mantey, the Centre Coordinator and staff welcomed the team. As was common among all the Learning Centres, the infrastructural deficits were challenges among others.

The Dean assured them that the challenges presented would be channeled to the appropriate offices for action.

Prof. Kwapong, in her concluding remarks, told staff that they have ‘a listening Provost’ who has the Learning Centres at heart and thus would do everything in his power to uplift the image of the Learning Centres.
