The vision for the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) is to build on the strengths of the School to provide a world-class university-based adult education to meet national development needs through quality research, teaching and learning, and community engagement. This will be achieved through strong leadership that is built on integrity and commitment to the service of the University. The School of Continuing and Distance Education comprises three departments: the Department of Adult Education and Human Resource Studies, University of Ghana Learning Centres and the Department of Distance Education. The following strategic goals which are in line with the College’s and University’s vision and mission shall be pursued to achieve the vision of the School of Continuing and Distance Education.   

Strategic Goals

  • Promote cutting edge research and publication.
  • Promote academic excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels through effective teaching and learning using Information and Communication Technologies.
  • Recruit well-qualified faculty and address the human resource needs of faculty and staff through continuous professional development.
  • Collaborate with universities (both national and international) through joint research and conferences
  • Increase the students’ number in the Distance Education programme through effective marketing and communication strategies, as well as the introduction of online and hybrid courses at undergraduate and graduate levels using the Schools’ state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Transform University of Ghana Learning Centres into satellite campuses on the Accra City campus model.
  • Establish links with Adult Education organisations and professional bodies to improve visibility and public image of the School and its units.
  • Expand and strengthen the financial resources of the School and its units.
  • Monitor activities of the School to ensure user satisfaction of our services.
  • Evaluate activities of the School to ensure continuous feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

The School of Continuing and Distance offers formal degree programmes which can be found on the School’s website at We have re-introduced the University of Ghana Mature Student’s Examination. The School has for many decades organized non-formal programmes as part of its third mission. One such programme is the Annual New Year School and Conference which brings people of all walks of life to discuss dispassionately issues of national and international concern. I hope you will make the School of Continuing and Distance a preferred choice as you seek opportunities to become a lifelong learner.
