The management of the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) has organized an orientation for the 2022/2023 batch of National Service Personnel on Friday, 27th January 2023. Nine (9) personnel were posted to the SCDE under the College of Education.
The Dean, School Administrator, and other senior staff from the various departments and the Dean’s Secretariat addressed the National Service Personnel.
The Dean, Prof. Olivia Kwapong was appreciative of their commitment to the SCDE. She stressed the many opportunities the School has that they must utilize to their advantage. According to her, this period was the perfect time for them to learn and grasp knowledge for their careers. Prof. Kwapong encouraged them to educate themselves and soar higher in their individual careers. She believes that for a nation to develop, every individual must have an education.

The School Administrator, Mrs. Regina Afari Boateng gave a presentation on the structure and a brief history of the SCDE. Explaining the importance of the programmes offered by the school, she tasked personnel to disseminate information about the SCDE’s programmes. According to her, SCDE believes in ‘Education for All’. Regardless of who you are or one’s background, everyone has the opportunity of getting a university education through the mature entrance programme once the individual is 25 years old or more. Mrs. Afari Boateng, stressed that education is a way of mitigating the challenges of national development and positioning a country to compete globally. She entreated the personnel to be committed to their work.

The National Service personnel were tasked to outline what they hope to achieve during their one-year period with the school. These expectations according to the School Administrator would inform management on where best to place them and know what tasks to assign each of them. These expectations are to be measured at the end of their national service.
Presentations were received from Departmental representatives from the three departments in the school. Namely, Adult Education and Human Resource Studies, Distance Education and the University of Ghana Learning Centres. The representatives took turns to explain how their departments work.
Senior staff from the Dean’s Secretariat gave presentations on office processes, time management, and event coordination and planning.
The Service personnel expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to do their service with the school. They were optimistic that their expectations would be achieved by the end of their service period.
