Some Faculty and Administrators from the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) and the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD) visited Tallinn University in Estonia as part of the Erasmus + Mobility Programme from 26th to 30th March 2023.
The activity is part of the European Commission Erasmus + Programme geared towards the educational, professional, and personal development of people in education, training, youth, and sport, in Europe and beyond. The Team included Dr. Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto, a Senior Lecturer at SCDE and Coordinator for the International Programmes at the College of Education, Dr. Jack Andrews Dotsey, Executive Director of the Annual New Year School and Conference, SCDE. The Administrators are Mrs. Regina Afari Boateng, SCDE and Ms. Eccles Andoh, from LECIAD.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the already existing relationship between the School of Digital Technologies, the School of Governance, Law, and Society of Tallin University and the School of Continuing and Distance Education, and Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy of the University of Ghana. The programme also served as an opportunity to explore further areas the participating Schools from both TLU and UG can collaborate in future.
As part of the Erasmus + Programme, the Team from UG had the opportunity of interacting with Faculty and Administrators from TLU. A courtesy call was paid to the Rector of TLU, in the person of Prof. Tonu Viik. The Rector expressed interest in the Team’s visit and stated his delight to work with and have a long-term partnership with UG. He also pledged his support for the ongoing collaboration between the two schools in TLU and UG.
A meeting was held with the Strategy Manager of TLU, Mr. Mikk Kasesalk, who was optimistic that Senior management of TLU will pay a working visit to Ghana in December 2023 and expressed an interest in meeting UG’s Senior management to possibly sign an MOU to enable the two universities have more collaborations in future.
The UG Team also met with the Directors and faculty from the School of Digital Technologies and the School of Governance, Law, and Society to interact and explore areas they could collaborate. Prominent among the possible areas discussed were Faculty, Administrators, Staff, and Students’ exchanges. Other areas include joint curriculum development, UG students auditing courses from TLU and TLU participating in SCDE’s Annual New Year School and Conference.
As part of the Erasmus + Mobility Programme, a team from the School of Digital Technologies and the School of Governance, Law, and Society, TLU will also visit SCDE and LECIAD in the months of June or July 2023.
Finally, the UG team was taken on a tour to some tourist sites in Estonia and also visited the Tallinna XXI Kool (a 21stCentury model School) where they interacted with some students and staff. The Team is grateful to management of SCDE and LECIAD for the opportunity to visit TLU and hope to host their colleagues from TLU in Ghana soon. The Team is equally grateful to colleagues from TLU led by Dr. James Sunney Quaicoe who made their stay an interesting one.
